Regular off-roaders from Jeep, Land Rover and Mercedes have amazing technology to maximize traction, like four-wheel drive and locking differentials, but an engineering group from Poland (PIMOT – Automotive Industry Institute) wants even better maneuverability, so they developed the Funter, a burly 4×4 that includes four-wheel steering to let it whip around obstacles.
With this steering system, the Funter can point all four wheels and crab sideways, or point the fronts and rears in opposite directions for a minuscule turning circle. If the engineers who built the Funter don’t find interest among off-roaders, city-dwellers will surely appreciate its ease of parking.
On INTARG 2016 of the several hundred participants from 15 countries, Funter only received the prestigious Grand Prix Special and Platinum Medal for the best invention scales transportation industry / logistics. This is another significant award for designers of vehicle, including winners laurels during the International Fair in Paris and Brussels.
